Zakes Bantwini won the prestigious Grammy award in Loa Angeles for the first time in his life, and his reaction impressed fans back home. The famous music producer and singer won the Grammy with fellow stars Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode for the Best Global Music Performance in the Global Music for their hit song Bayethe.
Zakes followed the path of Black Coffee as the South African flag continues to rise on the global stage as far as music is concerned. When Black Coffee won the prestigious award, it looked impossible but now the sheep are rolling, and such an achievement so humbles Zakes. Many congratulatory messages came, but he was never carried away. The KwaMushu-born star is determined and thankful to all Mzansi for the support and love they are showing him.
Zakes Bantini, Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode’s reactions to the Grammy award
Kellerman started took the mic first upon receiving the awards and said:
Thank you so much. This is such a beautiful moment on the road to sharing South African music and culture with the world
After Kellerman finished, Zakes was the second as he spoke wonderful words that left tears in all South Africans’ hearts. He said:
“I want to say, we are coming from Africa, South Africa. And this moment right here to anybody who’s in Africa just proves and affirms that every dream is valid.”
Lastly was Zikode, who also won the prestigious award for the first time. He had little to say but to thank his family and all the fans who made it possible for them to win such an honour.
